Ability to have inactive users?

We anticipate roughly 100 active users of our YouTrack server, but our LDAP server and Bugzilla database have roughly 350 users.

If we were to use a 100 user YouTrack license, we would be unable to import our Bugzilla database, and would be unable to use LDAP for our user info... This is a problem for us.

TeamCity has a concept of un/authorised agents, which allows us more agents connected to the server, but only our allowed amount are authorised to build. It would be nice if YouTrack had this concept.

Any other ways to support this would be greatly received.

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

Currently, we have the following: script will import first 100 users of 350 you have in BugZilla.
We have planned implementation of such a method, which allows you to Ban user. So you will be able to import all 350 users banned, and then will be able manually unban particular hundred of them.

Thank you.

Hi Andrey,
Thanks for another fast response :)

The idea of importing all 350 users as banned, and unbanning 100 of them sounds ideal, any idea of an anticipated release version for that feature?

The script idea sounds risky, I worry what it would do with issues commented by, or being assigned to users not imported, with roughly 30,000 issues in our current database, I don't fancy matching comments and assignees to the correct users post-import.

Thanks,

Jim,

We are able to consider this one after YouTrack 5.0 release.

Currently, if you are going to import 100 of 350 users, all issues from non-imported users won't be imported to YouTrack. Your worries are clear. Unfortunately, I see only two ways around- upgrade your license to more extended plan, or wait a bit till we investigate implementation of such method. As far as I understand, it's critical for you, is it?

We've just had a plan here, which may do what we need.

We currently have an unlimited user evaluation server up and running with our bugzilla issues imported and all 344 users imported.
By banning users, I can see that the user count within the license limitation panel of the settings page drops.

So it sounds like the ideal workflow would be :
  • Install the evaluation onto our final production server
  • Import all bugzilla issues
  • Ban all users no longer at the company
  • Upgrade license to a purchased 100-user license

Does that sound like it'd work?

Hi Jim,

Sorry for not responding earlier.

Yes, your scenario should work. But, ofcourse, it requires a method, which allows you to import all users as banned first.

Thank you.
