What is a Global Project, what's its purpose?

It appears that at some point in time I renamed the global project, whatever that is, to something else (say, "X") because I wanted to use it.

I haven't been using it at all for some time, but today I finally decided to create an issue. It went fine, but I couldn't assign a user because there were no users in this project's team. And apparently, it's impossible to add users to the global project.

I tried to rename the project from X to Global. All was fine, except I couldn't create a new project X because YouTrack thought it had a duplicate name. "OK", I thought, "the name must still be used somewhere internally, so I can just remove the project Global". And I did.

The only problem (or at least, the only one that I've found) is that now all groups that were mentioning the project X still do mention X even though it was renamed and even removed.

I was able to change all relevant groups' projects to a dummy temporary project, except for the "All Users" group - it still mentions project X. Because of that, I cannot create a project named X.

What should I do in order to have a genuine project X that's not some global project, so I can finally add people to it?

Also, the documentation does not appear to be mentioning the Global Project in any way.

Hmm, after some tinkering I was able to change the All Users group's project to a new project called Global by using Hub. Although I was able to do it only via the "Services > YouTrack Administration" page and not on the group's page itself. Strange.

And via the "Projects › Global › Edit Project" page on Hub, I was able to merge project Global with the removed project X that was marked as a global.

I must say, having this Hub is incredibly confusing after having prior experience only with a standalone version of YouTrack a few years back.

Nonetheless, the initial question in the title still stands - why do we need the Global Project with the unchangeable key GLBL?

Oh... Ohhhh. The "Help" link at the Hub leads to the YouTrack InCloud help. No wonder I couldn't find anything about the Global Project.

Maybe the "Help" link at the Hub pages should lead to the help website for Hub and not for YouTrack?

Well, even though I did find the documentation, it still doesn't really say much:

"The global project is a special project that is always present in the system. This project incorporates all of the resources available in Hub."

Specifically, why this project is available via YouTrack, why I cannot change its key but can rename it (which can create massive confusion), why I cannot add users but can create issues, why I cannot assign it in most of the places except for one.

Please refer to the documentation of Hub: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/hub/Introduction-to-HUB.html . Thank you for sharing our misleading placement of docs, we will update them.
