Bug status reports - How can I generate useful reports

Hi There,
I want to be able to generate reports from youtrack, covering the following;
  1. bugs found this week
  2. bugs fixed this week
(ideally chart showing both comparing between each other)
  1. bugs by priority
  2. total bugs outstanding
  3. total bugs fixed

Then track and compare this weekly.

I also want to add predictions to this and track it against a target completion date.

Is this all possible? If not is it on your roadmap?

Cheers,
Luke

Hello Luke,

Please consider YouTrack matrix reports (available on Reports page). Most of the functionality you require is available out of the box. However, in order to have a report on fixed bugs arranged by fixed date, you'll need to add new field of type date (say, Fixed Date) as well as a simple workflow rule that will populate the field when an issue gets resolved.
Should you need any assistance creating the workflow, just ping us here.

Best regards,

(UPDATE - upon clicking query I can see everything I need! Thanks for the help, hidden gems are within Query!)

I can see the top levels for what I need, i.e. fixed in build but I can't see a drop down for version. This is the same for each axis. Should my requirements go into the query?

I can use Fix version instead of Fixed date so that should cover that issue. I presume doing it like this will also mean I dont need to setup a workflow rule.

I appreciate that this reporting area is work in progress, so equally appreciate that some areas won't be intuitive on first implementation.

All help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Luke

We're continuously working on improving UX, so could you please share your thoughts on what parts of the reporting functionality should be improved in terms of usability?

Hi,

As per the above instructions: How does one add a newly added custom field to a matrix report? The dropdowns for X axis and Y axis only contain a specific set of predefined fields?

Hello Morten,
All custom fields should be availalbe there, so what you describe looks like a bug. Could you please provide more details on this? That's your CF type, is it attached to all projects, or only some of them?

Hi Alexander,

Here's what I try in v4.1.2, build #5749:
  • Create CF of type string, keeping the checkmark on "Visible" and checking the "Auto-attached" field (so "Private" is unchecked), then click "Create".
  • Attach to a project.
  • Go to "Create Matrix Report" - fail to find field in dropdown.
  • Update some issue with a value for the field.
  • Go to "Create Matrix Report" again - fail to find field in dropdown.
  • Attach to all other projects.
  • Go to "Create Matrix Report" again - fail to find field in dropdown.

The system has recently been upgraded from an earlier version (3-something).

Morten

Morten,
I was not precise enough stating that all fields should be available. In fact, only those of types xyz[*] or xyr[1] should. Here's the feature request on supporting other field types in matrix reports: JT-12625.
