Sender address of email notifications

Hi,

currently all notification mails sent by YouTrack use the email address configured as "Server 'from' email" in the Adminstration settings.

For example the mails generated by YouTrack usually have the following From header, where 'Jochen Schalanda' is my account's name and 'youtrack@example.com' is the default email configured in YouTrack:
From: Jochen Schalanda <youtrack@example.com>
prettyPrint();
Is it possible to have YouTrack use the email address of the user who did the change as it is using the user's name?

Hello Jochen,

Notifications may be sent only from one email server, so this is the server that you point in field "Server 'from' email" . It's impossible to sent notifications from user's address that made changes. But, certainly, you are able to point in this field any email address you wish that will be set as notification's server for you instance.
For example, in your case it may looks like:
From: Jochen Schalanda <jochen@gmail.com>

However, I suggest you to use our default server <no_reply@jetbrains.com> or to configure your own separated notifications server, not private email.

Hello Andrey,

thanks for your reply! I think it's best if I elaborated a little more on my problem.

It's a little bit confusing for our users to see a mixture of name and email address in the From header of YouTrack's notification mails. It wouldn't be a problem only the "Server 'from' email" (YouTrack <youtrack@example.com> or only the user's name and email (Joe User <joe@example.com>) were used, but mixing both (Joe User <youtrack@example.com>) is kind of misleading.

Technically the From header in an email can diverge from the Envelope-From used in the SMTP dialog with the server so it shouldn't be a big problem using the "Server 'from' email" as Envelope-From and the user's email address in the From header. Alternatively just always use the "Server 'from' email" in all email notifications generated by YouTrack.

I hope I could make it more clear what I actually wanted. ;)

Best regards,
Jochen Schalanda

Hi Jochen,

I'm sorry, I missed details in previous reply.
Your use-case is clear now. You can change address that would be displayed in notifications in "From" field navigating to your "Profile"-> "General settings"-> enable checkbox "Use my email in notifications 'from' field" under "Email" field.
After that, email and name of the user who has updated an issue would be shown in the header of notification.

Contact us if have some troubles with that, we'll be happy to help!

Hi Andrey,

that's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

I still have one question about the issue, though.
You can change address that would be displayed in notifications in "From" field navigating to your "Profile"-> "General settings"-> enable checkbox "Use my email in notifications 'from' field" under "Email" field.

This setting is user-specific and the users themselves have to enable it. Is there a way to enable that behaviour globally for the whole YouTrack installation? And if it's not, do you think a feature request would have a chance of being implemented in future versions?

Best regards,
Jochen
