Custom Fields

I want to add sprints to my Sprint field and want the same values for all project that use this field. I figured that the right way to do this is to add the new values via the ‘Edit for all affected project’ option. But when I now use those projects these new values do not reflect, it only show when I add the field to a project that did not use it before. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Hi Anton! This is most likely happening because your existing projects are using independent copies of the Sprint field's set of values.

When that's the case, changes made via Edit for all affected projects only reach projects still linked to the shared set — existing projects with independent sets are unaffected, while new projects inherit from the shared set directly.

You can confirm this by going to Administration > Custom Fields, opening the Fields in Projects tab, and checking your Sprint field in various projects. Projects with independent sets of values in the Sprint field will not display the Edit for all affected projects and Make independent copy options. Instead, value management options will be shown directly (Add new value etc.).

If you want the project fields with independent sets to use the shared set, you can use the Merge with option in the set editor and select the set shared with your other projects. The set selector will display both the field name and the projects where this set is used in that field. Note that merging will result in the creation of a new unified set containing all of the values of both sets.

See Manage Sets of Values for more on how shared and independent sets of values work.
