Open deep links to cloud-based instance in Youtrack Mobile?

Hey,

I want that the links to issues are opened in Youtrack Mobile, e.g. myinstance.youtrack.cloud/issue/ABC-123. The goal is that I can open them from an NFC tag. However, I can only open the app with an Android Record Entry on the NFC tag, OR open the link in Chrome. I checked the documentation for deep links, and found this:

https://www.jetbrains.com/help/youtrack/server/youtrack-mobile.html#mobile-app-troubleshooting

Condition — You are not able to open a YouTrack link from an external source within the YouTrack app.

Cause

The custom URL for your YouTrack Server installation is not verified to open deep links within the application.

Solution

Open links to YouTrack using a web browser application on your mobile device.

Which tells me two things: a: this is for server instances. Fair enough. I'm on cloud however.

And b: the link goes to Android Developer Portal, where it says “yeah you need to configure your app so the intent is checked and handed over” (basically). So it's a thing you'd have to bake into the Youtrack Mobile app?

Leads back to “I as user cannot do anything to open deep links in the app, cloud or server”. Is this correct?

Hey!

You're right about one part: that troubleshooting note is for Server installs only, so it doesn't apply to you on Cloud. But the other part isn't quite right. On Cloud, this is already set up to work; you don't need to configure anything, and neither do we. Tapping a link to your instance should just open the app.

So Chrome opening instead is probably not a YouTrack issue, more likely something on your phone. Android sometimes needs to double-check that YouTrack Mobile is allowed to open links to your instance, and that check can quietly fail or be reset.

Two things worth trying:
- Go to Settings > Apps > YouTrack Mobile > Open by default and see if your instance's link shows up there and is turned on. If it's there but off, turn it on and try the tag again.
- Tap the same kind of link from somewhere else, like an email or Slack message, instead of the NFC tag. If that opens the app fine, it tells us the tag itself is the odd one out.

Thanks, I will try with another phone / same NFC tag / another app etc. and report back :)
