Is there no way to show the headers for columns shown in Issue list page??

I am evaluating YouTrack for our use but am a little surprised that there is no way to show the field headers on the page listing issues. Overall the app is great (as I have come to expect from JetBrains products over the last 12 years or so!).

This seems like such an obvious deficiency, I am wondering what I am missing. (It is almost like I am dealing with Atlassian's JIRA – which seems to have been  designed by monkeys on crack, rather then JetBrain).

I am also surprised that there is no way to customize the fields shown on the issue list.. there are  only the four canned formats (and with no headers).

Am I missing something? I thought at one point it must be a bug in the particular browser I was using, but seems to be the case for any browser.)

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your feedback!
Please, provide me with the screenshot of your Issue list. Seems like it's not clear what header are wanted.
Speaking of Custom fields, I guess you'd like to be able to configure which set of fields should be shown, correct? You may hide/show fields clicking the gear under search field and set the order of fields under Administration> Projects> target project> Fields tab, just drag fields in right order.

Andrey,
Attached is a screenshot of the Compact View. (I have filtered it down to one issue for privacy.) I have several custom fields, but as you see.. no  headers, so no way to even distinguish which column is which. I can go and hide/show from those available and reorder them too on the admin page, but that seems to only make them available "within the constraints" of the four pre-defined list formats (Tree, One-line, Compact, and Detailed). This makes the application pretty much a no-go.
Additional feedback:
Because you only have four canned pre-defined for the issues list, one is forced to do silly work-arounds. For example, the second screen shot shows how i am unable to freely define just which columns are visible on the Tree View, and therefore, since I need a Tree View that also shows my Subsystems. But to get that visible on the pre-defined Tree View, I was forced to create Tags that simply duplicated my Subsystems. (See the third screenshot).

I hope you can identify ways to get these obvious features (showing headers, and customizing a view beyond the four predefined ones.)

Thanks!

Sorry for the grammatical typos in last message. After publishing the final version of that message, the forum only showed an earlier version.  The last paragraph should have been:

(I also assume you receive the three png's that i attached, even though there is no evidence of them in the published comment.)

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for details. Now it's clear.
Custom field names show as tooltips when cursor is on value. Looks like issue will be overloaded if details will be shown as:
Custom field name:Value. Currently, if you'd like to know which field is which, just put cursor on a value. Assumes that this information can be shown on request.
Speaking of specific of Tree view and One-line view, it works as expected: first field in a list is Priority, so it's visible.
As far as I can see, you work under Everything set as context. Did you try the case to define context and specify query? Value you've missed on Tree view can ve just filtered as context. Tree view and One-line view are views that used to be minimal loaded lists, just to see the big picture, hierarchy. Values are shown on Detailed view, that's why it exists.
Am I correct, you'd like to have kind of constructor for custom views creation?

BTW, yes, we have known issues on forum. Attaches are visible on Edit comment mode only. I've got them, thank you.

Hi we've noticed the same thing -- there are no column headings for the issue field names when in the search view (either compact or details). Trying to use this view is like trying to fill out a spreadsheet that has only cells and no labels. Tooltips are not a substitute -- they're not at-a-glance, they're one row at a time, and they take a while to appear. This seems like a big shortcoming to me.

Brian, could you please attach a screenshot with this issue? Thanks.

Sure thing, hope this helps!

Brian, I'm sorry for the delay. Currently the only way to view the name of the field is to hover over the value with the mouse. We don't plan to change this behavior in the nearest future, but please feel free to file a feature request into our tracker here: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/JT

Sure thing, I submitted the following ticket: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/JT-43989

I upvoted this by commenting on the ticket, repeated here to make sure it gets visibility:

Hi,

I get what you're saying here Artem, and that makes sense for employees viewing their assignments that may be from different teams.

But for a project manager trying to build a project schedule and wanting to see all the tasks/issues in a list or tree view... you generally want to see all the same critical fields for every issue (who it's assigned to, status, how long it will take, etc). The other relevant info that might be different for each task/issue - those are details that don't need to be visible in the overall list. You can see those details when you click into a specific task/issue but they don't need to be visible at the 10k foot level which is what that list/tree view really should be for (at least for PMs).

Not having column headers at the top of the list/tree view is a MAJOR detraction from this application. Almost enough on it's own to make it not worth using. We've looked at five other PM packages (Monday, Clickup, Wrike, etc) and EVERY other package does it this way (headers at the top). Maybe you could implement two separate views for this - one where all the tasks/issues are forced to display the same columns/fields (a view for a whole project) and another one for a filtered view with tasks that have different information displayed? I know that's extra work but... the way it is now seems to be focused on helping the front line employees who are doing the individual tasks rather than helping the project managers who are trying to organize everything. But IMO.. the front line employees have a lot less to keep track of and are much less in need of organizational assistance with responsibility for 2 to maybe 10 issues at a time, vs the PM who is responsible for making sure hundreds of interdependent issues are being executed in the optimal sequence.

Just a thought.

Hello Matt,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Did you try the Lite interface https://www.jetbrains.com/help/youtrack/cloud/issues-list.html#8cf85f03? The issue list is designed as a table with headers there.

Feel free to contact us in case of any questions.
