How to update embedded image in knowledge base article

While I am eagerly waiting for PlantUML integration I attach my diagrams to articles and embed them  as images. So it looks like  `![](convert_stage - convert - to-be.svg)` in markdown.

Now I need to update the diagram.  I expected that I upload a file with same name and it will replace (or stack as it happens in confluence over previous  versions)  the attachment  with same name or suggest a new name,  but it just stores two  attachments with same  name.

How am I supposed to specify that I want the latest file to be displayed in my article?

Now I manually delete the older version, but this cause the deletion of the link to the embedded image from article text, despite that the new file is already uploaded.

Very, very unintuitive and inconvenient, did anyone thought about UX  in this UC at all?

Hi,

I'm Sergey from the YouTrack team.

I agree that handling attachments with the same names could be more intuitive. To address this, we have related issues in our tracker:

  • JT-83227 - Text Editor: Drag-and-drop images with the same name don't replace existing ones.
  • JT-62753 - Prevent duplicate attachment names.

You can vote for these issues to help us prioritize improvements. Signing in to JetBrains YouTrack and clicking the thumbs-up icon will also subscribe you to updates.

I have found a workaround

  1. rename the attachment file to be replaced
  2. upload new version
  3. delete renamed attachment

This  way there is no need to edit article, but it still quite user-unfriendly, almost user-hostile.
