Suddenly teammates are Anonymized?

Today we logged in to our YouTrack Cloud instance see that my whole team cannot see each other's tasks anymore, or their status on Agile boards, they can only see themselves and no one else's data. Yesterday all was well, today this, and I don't believe we made any changes to perms, roles, etc. My employees will see all tasks assigned to other people as being "Unassigned."

Anyone else seeing this?

I think recently the "anonymize" user function was added to support GDPR rules, could it be related to something that just got turned on maybe? Or a new setting we need to change?

Strangely myself and another manager can see the boards normally (all tasks assigned and full data) which makes me think perhaps this is a sudden role-based issue?

Hi!

I'm Sergey from the Youtrack team.

Thank you for the post. I'm happy to help you.

It occurs for users who don't have access to view other users don't see other users' names.

If that's not intended, you (or your system admin) should grant such users a permission to view other users and everything will be back to normal. For that, please go to settings → Roles → Open a role → Make sure that the users' roles have the Read User Basic permission (at the bottom of the Hub tab). Once you grant this permission, ask the users to check it again.

If any questions appear, please let me know.

Hi,
We had the same, and everyone has the General User role, which already had “Read Project Basic” as well as Full, etc…
Update: We used to have separated “Developer” role - with those rights - and a General one not supposed to have any “Full  / Create/ Update / Delete” stuff - too dangerous ..  but the whole that configuration disappeared.

Hi Yarenty ,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot. The permissions shown there, Read Project Basic and Read Project Full, control access to project data. They are not the same as the ones that determine whether users can see each other's names.

The permission that controls user name visibility is Read User Basic (or Read User Full for extended profile access). Users without either of these permissions see other accounts as "Anonymized user-XXXX" instead of real names. These are listed separately in the role editor, not in

The YouTrack Permissions Reference has a full description of what each permission covers if it's helpful.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for response!!!

Sorry, wrong screenshot:

All here is set on, however, if I go to user profile, and check Groups (or Roles):

Believe me - read user is not on this list ;-)

And still just see lots of Anonimized-xyz

BTW: Our version is:  Build 2026.1.13456 / Thursday, May 7, 2026

UPDATE: Thanks for your and your colleague Stanislav's support!

An important tip for us was:
- Before 2026.1: per-project role assignment was sufficient.

- From 2026.1: must be assigned at global scope (no project selected).

The role with proper access needs to be (re)assigned at the global scope (to a group with no specific project selected).

Issue solved!
