Repeatable project

G'day Community.

Im in a new role with a new organisation (to me). We are a software company and we do projects where we deploy our ERP software to clients. I have been asked to make a formal Project process for a complete project for deployment that is comprehensive, deploying tasks to those involved and providing Project manager and C-Level dashboards. This, then, needs to be easy to replicate without deep knowledge of the process in the event of staff turnover.

I'm just now wrapping my head around how to create a Project with sections, with all the sub-tasks to complete the sections, and ultimately the project once all sections are complete.

Has anyone done this? is there some forum or documentation somewhere where this is covered? Surely I am not the first to need to do this?

Hello Mmacarthur

You can use a combination of project templates and custom workflows. So when a new project is created, a user can use an action workflow to automatically generate all needed issues.

Thanks, Alisa, so rather than populate a Template Project with all the sections and tasks already in there, you are saying to create a Custom workflow to create tasks when we create the master task? That would be good so we just have the modules that the Clients are purchasing rather than all the tasks for all the modules, which we then have to just go and close off.

Mmacarthur Unfortunately, project templates don't yet include issues, so using action workflows to generate them is the easiest way.

oh really? oh boy, I have a 3/4 built project I have not tested using as a Template yet, I just assumed it would replicate everything. OKAY, using action workflows to create a hundred or so tasks, with a number of them being subtasks, this may get complicated. I'll go hunting doco to see if the effort is worth it (I'm not a coder/ developer). Thanks so much for the heads up on this
